With winter still lingering, we look ahead to our spring event line-up when we can enjoy good times and some warmer weather.

Following the Feast of San Giuseppe last week, Easter is the next big traditional Italian dinner for members and their children at our beautiful townhouse. An Opera Night will also be held for the membership next month, hosted by Steve DeMaio of the Licia Albanese-Puccini Foundation.  The night will feature dinner and live singers, including famous opera soprano, Diana Soviero, featured in the clip below.

The Puccini Foundation also holds an annual international vocal competition here at the Columbus Citizens Foundation's townhouse.  The deadline for their application is coming up on April 1.  If you are a singer between the ages of 21-35, and are available to perform for the judges consider applying for this April's competition for a chance to win between $1,000 and $12,500 dollars from the Puccini Foundation, presented at their October gala.  You can find details on how to apply here: (due April 1).

Additionally, the Young Adults Auxiliary, a group composed of the young adult Foundation members' children and graduates of the Foundation scholarship program, is having a Food & Wine Pairing fundraiser for their members. All proceeds and sponsorship for their event will go to its Adopt-A-Scholar scholarship fund.

Speaking of which, the Foundation's scholarship committees are in full swing, reviewing applications for this year's academic grants.  The three scholarship committees for elementary, high school, and college began reviewing all applications two weeks ago. Semi-finalists will be notified in late April through early May to schedule an interview at the Townhouse by mid May.

The New York Conference of Italian-American State Legislators is also offering $2,000 scholarships that will be awarded to four current and future college students from New York State. As announced by Senator David Carlucci (D) and reported in the Rockland County Times, eligibility is based on the student’s GPA, interest in pursuing higher education, involvement in the local community, as well as financial need.  The deadline for filing an application is Friday, May 2, and scholarships will be awarded June 9 at the New York Conference of Italian-American State Legislators' Annual Legislative Conference Day.  Area students may request an application by calling Senator Carlucci’s office at 845-623-3627 or emailing him at
